Music has always been a big part of who we are and how we tell our stories. Whatever period you are looking at, there are numerous paintings of musicians, musical instruments, and musical study.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6701\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pablopicasso.org\/the-old-guitarist-by-pablo-picasso.jsp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6701\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6701  \" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/art\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2011\/04\/Picasso-Guitar.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6701\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Old Guitarist by Pablo Picasso on pablopicasso.org<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It&#8217;s ironic that people are drawn to visual depictions of music when the whole idea of it is to provide something to be enjoyed through the ears. Why do we go to &#8220;see&#8221; bands live in concert? True, the acoustic sense and specific performance may be better than listening to a recording at home, but there&#8217;s also something about the look of the players and their instruments as they play onstage that adds to the experience.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6712\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.metmuseum.org\/works_of_art\/collection_database\/musical_instruments\/clavichord_christian_kintzing\/objectview.aspx?page=3&amp;sort=5&amp;sortdir=asc&amp;keyword=&amp;fp=1&amp;dd1=18&amp;dd2=39&amp;vw=1&amp;collID=39&amp;OID=180015040&amp;vT=1&amp;hi=0&amp;ov=0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6712\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6712\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Clavichord-400x316.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"316\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6712\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Clavichord 1763 on metmuseum.org<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Some musical instruments go beyond subjects and motifs in artwork and are works of art in their own right. In their design and surface decoration they&#8217;re meant to look as good as they sound.
