Spring is a time of renewal, when nature is reborn after the hibernation of winter. When spring finally arrives, it’s a season of beautiful blooms and blue skies. Nowhere is spring captured more perfectly than in art.

The History of Landscape Art

Landscape art has a far-reaching history, dating back to the days of the wall paintings of the Ancient Greeks and Romans. The rise of the classic landscape painting as we know it began in the 17th century. French Artists such as Nicolas Poussin and Claude Lorrain became known for their paintings of sweeping landscapes, often depicting the Italian countryside where they both spent large parts of their art careers. The 19th century was a turning point for landscape paintings as landscapes became widely-acclaimed pieces in their own right. Artists such as Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet created iconic landscape pieces that are still treasured to this day.

Inspired by Spring

Spring is a particularly inspiring season, with abundant blooms and the slow awakening of the world after winter. It’s inspiring to see how artists can interpret a season in so many different ways. Different art styles bring out the best of spring’s virtues and the diversity of our planet means that spring looks different on each artist’s canvas. As the famous Claude Monet once said: “I must have flowers, always, and always.”

Landscape Art on Zatista

Landscape paintings aim to capture scenery in an artistic way, whether depicting it literally or showcasing the artist’s interpretation of the world around them.
